Happy New Year from the Insurance and Benefits Trust of PORAC

The Trustees and staff of the Insurance and Benefits Trust of PORAC (IBT) extend warm wishes for a healthy, safe, and prosperous New Year to all participants and their families. As we reflect on the past year and look ahead to new opportunities, we remain grateful for the trust our members place in us and for the continued privilege of serving the PORAC community.

In mid-November 2025, the IBT Board of Trustees held its annual meeting in conjunction with the PORAC Annual Conference and Board of Directors meetings in San Diego, California. This important gathering provided an opportunity to review progress, discuss upcoming initiatives, and swear in both newly elected and returning Trustees.

We offer our heartfelt appreciation to outgoing Trustees Dave Wilson of Region I for his four years, Gary Frace for his 10 years and Franco Vado for his 14 years. The IBT is thankful for their dedicated service. Their commitment to the Board and to PORAC members has been greatly valued, and we wish them every success in the future.

The IBT would like to extend a special welcome to our newest trustees: Damian Evans, PORAC Board Appointee, Charles Whitney, Retired Associate Member Representative, and Brian Murphy, representing Region I. We look forward to working with them to help serve our members!

For many years, the IBT has remained committed to providing benefits designed by peace officers for peace officers—comprehensive, affordable, and responsive to the unique needs of PORAC members. As we move forward into the New Year, we are pleased to report that the IBT has successfully completed its transition in taking over administrative duties from Myers-Stevens & Toohey.

This transition has allowed all billing and servicing to be processed in-house for disability, life and AD&D insurances. This transition has enhanced customer service, improved efficiency, and helped the IBT to better manage administrative costs. While the conversion has presented some challenges, the IBT continues to work diligently to resolve issues impacting the more than 21,000 covered members we serve. We sincerely thank our members and associations for their patience throughout this process. Today, the Disability and Accounting Teams are fully staffed with trained personnel ready to assist members with any questions they may have regarding their disability, life and AD&D insurances.

Beyond disability, life, and AD&D coverage, the IBT partners with California Casualty for auto and home insurance. Members can also access supplemental AFLAC plans—Accident Advantage, Cancer Care, and Hospital Advantage—to help with unexpected medical costs. The IBT also offers an Anthem-sponsored plan for participating associations. VSP vision coverage and Delta Dental insurance for retired members is also offered.

As always, the IBT remains committed to delivering high-quality, reliable products and services to all members. We look forward to continuing to strengthen and enhance our offerings in the year ahead.

Happy New Year—and thank you for being part of the IBT family.
