Health care is something that we all need to consider at some point in our lives. While none of us plans to fall ill or get injured, it’s crucial to be prepared for medical needs when they arise. This is especially true for first responders like police officers and firefighters, whose work exposes them to unique health risks. The Insurance and Benefits Trust (IBT) of the Police Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) offers an exceptional health care plan tailored for both active and retired PORAC members. Partnering with Anthem Blue Cross, this health plan aims to provide comprehensive coverage for all your medical needs.
As the 2026 CalPERS Open Enrollment period approaches, it’s an ideal time to review the Police & Fire Health Plan to ensure you’re making the best decision for you and your family’s health care needs.
The Police & Fire Health Plan, sponsored by PORAC, offers a range of benefits that make it an excellent choice for active and retired members. Here are some of the highlights:
Extensive Network Access: Members enjoy access to a vast network of qualified doctors across the United States. This nationwide coverage ensures that whether you’re at home or traveling, you’ll have access to high-quality care when you need it most. When traveling or on vacation, the plan includes non-emergency coverage, so you’re never left without support, no matter where you are. You’ll also have access to LiveHealth Online, enabling remote consultations with doctors for just a $10 copay.
Affordable Care: One of the most appealing features of the Police & Fire Health Plan is its low deductible. Members benefit from a $10 copay for primary care visits and a $35 copay for specialist visits. Additionally, preventative care services come at no cost, which can help you maintain your health and catch issues early, before they become more serious.
Out-of-Pocket Maximums: The plan also includes a maximum out-of-pocket expense of $2,000 per person and $4,000 per family. This means that once you reach these amounts, your plan will cover the rest of your eligible medical expenses, providing you with peace of mind and financial security in times of need.
Easy Access and Management: Managing your health care has never been easier. As a member of the Police & Fire Health Plan, you gain online access to your account through the I-Site portal. This platform allows you to track claims, view processed claims and explanations of benefits (EOBs), and check the enrollment status for yourself and your dependents.
Additional Coverage and Benefits of the Police & Fire Health Plan: The Police & Fire Health Plan goes beyond standard coverage, offering several valuable perks to support your health and well-being. Members can receive a full-body scan every three years, helping detect potential health concerns early. For those managing chronic conditions, the plan provides specialized programs to ensure continuous care and support. Additionally, the plan offers coverage for out-of-state care and includes a Medicare Supplement Plan for eligible retirees, ensuring comprehensive healthcare even in retirement. With these additional benefits, the Police & Fire Health Plan is designed to keep you covered, healthy, and supported at every stage of life.
